# About

Postal Index Number (PIN) code is a numeric nomenclature used by Indian Postal services to uniquely identify the postal zones in the country. The implementation of this coding system was commenced on August 15, 1972. The entire country is divided into 8 regional zones along with 1 functional zone. Every zone is entitled with a six digit number which is crucial piece of information which guarantees your parcel is delivered at the absolute doorstep.

The PIN code system works on a coding system wherein each number represents a particular place and the combination of these letters determine the location to which the package is to be delivered.

What is a PINCODE and what does it represent?

PIN stands for Postal Index Number. It's a six digit number allotted to several places in India. A correct address with Pin Code enables the post to reach the addressee promptly. It was introduced in August 15, 1972. Take for example a postal code "500072". The first digit in it represents the region. North = 1,2 West = 3,4 South = 5,6 East = 7,8 Army = 9 In this case (5), the region is South. Second digit represents the State or Sub Region. Which in this case (0) is Telangana. Third digit indicates the District, which in this case is Hyderabad/Rangareddy. Last three digits indicates the post office number, which in this case is KPHB Colony Post Office.
